Curating In the Loft
We put garments on the floor; I have this habit… I can see things better when they are lying on the floor. Not only students’ work, but Comme des Garçons garments, drawings, patterns – all were presented on my concrete floor. Press, buyers, friends came to see the garments of CDG that lay there as objects because of the interesting patterns…it’s hard to explain that, from a two-dimensional pattern, you dress a three-dimensional body. The two-dimensional perspective of the clothes pattern is an interesting subject studied by Janet Arnold, Rei Kawakubo and many others. I curated an exhibition at MoMu in Antwerp, on patterns. Two-dimensional patterns were exhibited flat alongside the made-up garment on a dummy to show the results of the creative form.
